HOW I DOUBLED THE CLIENT’S SALES & PROFIT WITH MY VERY FIRST JOB.
My very first direct marketing ad for Shell Aviation while working for Ogilvy & Mather (Canada) Ltd., was a huge success.
The ad had to sell fuel and maintenance service to private aircraft owners. It ran in every Canadian aeronautical magazines.
The client suggested a discounted gas offer to the private aircraft owners.
Not convinced that this was the right way to go, I managed to convince the agency and the client into changing the offer.
I suggested that the offer should be the book The Encyclopedia of Aviation.
Below is the contact report I received a month after the ad ran. On it is this hand written message from the marketing manager:
- At last report, orders still flooding
in...Now 1,780 ... against a budget of 1,000 we planned ... scrambling to get more books.
